So often these days, people will go out and shoot video and spend hours making it look beautiful, but when they get back to listen to it, the sound is quite a different story. In today's world we can buy these whizz - bang wonderful camera's and they all have microphones attached and automatic gain control so that we don't even need to worry about the sound. That is, until we get it back to our reference room and it sounds bad ! !

Below are examples of just such a case where someone shot for three whole days and didn't have the experience to think about checking the audio at some point before it was too late. The hum on the audio was one of the worst I've heard and I've been doing this for over 25 years. The poor client was totally ashamed that the audio was so bad. But fortunately, some pretty amazing strides have been made with noise removal and filtering.

    Using a noise removal tool and some judicious EQ, I was able to get rid of most of the offending noise. Of course, when you get rid of the nasty noise, there is a part of the voice that gets lost too, but I'm sure you'll agree that it's worth a little trade off here. And I was able to save the client the pain and embarrassment of completely re-shooting the project. Have a listen:

Mic too far away - Terrible Hum	Many times inexperienced videographers will shoot with their subject too far away to pick up decent sound using the on-camera mic. This was a young person who didn't project and the serious hum of a bad mic connection almost totally obliterated his voice.
