Sandra
from Rwanda the Orphan who adopted me.
With
a notebook in hand, she appeared at my side
Shading
my console screen from the glare.
She
stood there so resolute with a smile on her face
Just
happy to assist me and be there.
She
helped serve me lunch with Eroni Berunji
Two
lovelier girls you couldn't find.
And
when, at the end of my stay, I had my notebook signed,
I
had no idea that Sandra had felt this way,
And
was ill-prepared for such an expression of pure love.
At
a loss for words, my only reply was "moi aussi" me also.
Her
lovely face beamed with delight
and
her gaze followed me as I left, until I was out of sight.
I
wrote her and she wrote me back
She
opened her heart to me completely.
Words
so touching and so blatantly candid, so sweet, so pure
For
in that country called Uganda, there's much one has to endure.
And
I feel that, it's in that adversity that humans find a propensity for
bearing
their very soul to one who's been kind.
I
know that with Sandra, the orphan who adopted me,
a more
beautiful soul I'll never find.

Do you remember
not so very long ago when we all thought the world might
come to an
end? The Y2K scenario. Somebody I knew actually even bought a
generator
as well as got themselves stockpiled with food, water and even
some Johnny
Carson re-runs.....just in case.
Well I was
totally unaffected by that whole situation. You see, I spent New
Year's eve
1999 on the brink of the new millennium, in Kampala, Uganda.
I went there
to record the most beautiful, most amazing, most joyous group
of children
I've ever met. They were all orphans, most of their parents
having succumbed
to AIDS. I went there to record their infectious, spirited
songs and
I did this at my own expense and gladly donated my time and
services to
them to produce a cd of their songs, but I didn't realise what
would happen
by doing that. You see, I have been repaid a thousand times in
many ways
and I'm so thankful to these wonderful children for teaching me
so much and
for showing me the most beautiful souls I could only imagine.
(They inspired me
to build a web site dedicated to
them with
over 800 photos
While I was
recording the group, I met Sandra who was originally
from Rwanda.
Both her parents were killed during the war there. She
seemed to
take a shine to me and was keen to help during the recording. But
I didn't realise
the depth of what she felt until I left, and her gift alone is
more than
I could conceive as payment for my small deed.
